Sports Premium
The government provides additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. The Primary PE and Sport Premium is used to:
- Develop or add to the PE and sports activities that the school already offers.
- Build capacity and capabilities within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Schools are required to publish details of how they spend this funding as well as on the impact it has on pupils’ PE and Sport participation and attainment.
In forming our action plan we focus on key aspects:
- Improve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy, active lifestyles
- Raise the profile of sport across the school, increasing the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff teaching PE
- Provide a broader experience of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increase participation in competitive sport
Please find below our report evidencing the impact of the Primary PE and Sport Premium.
As part of Sports Premium Funding, we subscribe to Inspire Together. Inspire Together aims to provide health, wellbeing and physical activity opportunities to inspire the young people of Leicester and give them the knowledge they need to lead a healthier, happier future.
Inspire Together are joining four-time Olympian Mo Farah in his mission to ensure that all children and young people are active for at least 60 minutes a day. ‘Mo’s Mission’, as the newly crowned National School Sport Champion, is to empower children in the UK to be more physically active every day through PE, Sport & Play.
To support this, Inspire Together are launching their 60 Active Minutes campaign to raise awareness with local parents, carers, teachers and other responsible adults about the importance of children & young people being active for at least 60 minutes throughout the day. This is proven to support not only the physical health & wellbeing of children, but also to improve their mental health, mood and concentration throughout the day.
On Friday 1st November, some of our Year 2 children attended a Sports Festival delivered by Inspire Together at Leicester High School. They had a wonderful time taking part in the range of sporting activities and all of them said they wanted to attend another festival. What a roaring success.
Another aspect of our Sports Premium Spending is subscribing to Metcalf Multisports. Metcalf Multisports is a sports coaching company based around the East Midlands. They provide excellence in sports coaching, no matter what sport they are teaching. They develop children from ages 4-11 to the best of their ability, whether it maybe their fundamental movement or a specific-based sport. Each child's development will be different, which is why they provide weekly-based assessments during PE to monitor how the children are improving.
Metcalf Multisports aims to be an excellent sports coaching organisation, providing children with a safe, fun environment to learn, along with making new friends and giving each individual the opportunity to develop and learn new skills. Their coaches st4rive on giving children the best environment that they can to learn, whilst giving them the best influence possible so that they can enjoy themselves.
