Art and Design
Art and Design stimulates children’s creativity and imagination by providing visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of responding to the world.
Our Art Curriculum Intent
• For children to see themselves as artists (Artistic Identity): We aim to empower pupils to view themselves as artists, cultivating confidence and a sense of identity within the arts. By developing their "Artistic Identity," pupils gain appreciation for the creative process, discovering that art is for everyone and they have the unique potential to contribute to the art world.
• To have the skills to create and explore art confidently: Our art lessons focus on equipping pupils with essential skills for artistic exploration. This includes learning various techniques, experimenting with different media, and refining their ability to convey ideas and emotions visually.
• To appreciate and connect with diverse artwork: The curriculum introduces pupils to a range of artists, styles, and cultures, encouraging them to celebrate diversity in the arts. This exposure helps pupils understand the power of art to tell stories, express values, and bridge cultural differences.
• To nurture curiosity and self-expression in art: Curiosity is at the heart of our art curriculum. We encourage pupils to explore their creativity without limitations, developing a lifelong interest in self-expression and the joy of creating.
• To develop the vocabulary to engage with and discuss art: Building a strong foundation in artistic vocabulary allows pupils to articulate their insights, express their creative ideas, and participate in meaningful discussions about artwork with confidence.
This intent ensures that art education is comprehensive, nurturing not only skills but also appreciation, curiosity, and a sense of identity within the arts.
